Whenever you are in the market for a new cell phone, you may encounter the terms locked or unlocked that is used to describe phones such as Unlocked Nokia Phones .  You may also have heard that these unlocked phones are much cheaper than locked counterparts.  You can now find Cheap Verizon Phones and they are unlocked.  It is not anymore difficult to find Cheap Phones Without Contract unlike before.  That is because of the popularity enjoyed by such phones these days.

Locked cell phones are attached to the network.  If you will go to AT&T to buy cell phones from them, then that phone is said to be locked to their network.  If that is the case, it will not be able to work with another network like NEXTEL or SPRINT.  Therefore, unlocked cell phones are phones which are brought not locked to a certain network.  And because it is not locked in a network that means that it can work well with any network.

The network which phones lock unto depends on the SIM card which you put into it.  For instance, if you put your AT&T SIM in your unlocked phone, then it will work with the AT&T network.  The same is true if you will put a NEXTEL SIM in it, it will then work with the NEXTEL network.  But if the phone is locked to one particular network such as AT&T for example, if you will change your SIM card to another SIM card for another network like SPRINT, then it will not work.
